Kinesio Therapeutic Taping

Kinesio taping is an effective form of continuous care that helps eliminate stresses and strains. The hypoallergenic tape is made of 100{c7f6b36a16466eb13b4f5c7e59122346a25466828cc29c9d51ed9940ac31fe67} acrylic glue and is safe to use. Kinesio taping was founded in 1973 by Japaneses Chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kase. Kinesio taping is not exclusive to sports athletes. In fact, kinesio taping is widely used by a variety of patients as the tape is designed to reduce discomfort stemming from a wide-range of reasons. The tape works to improve structural positioning (including posture), neurological improvement, and improves microcirculatory flow. In addition, the tape is used to reduce inflammation due to injuries and discomfort which allows the body to recover promptly.

How is Kinesio tape used?

A. When using Kinesio tape, there are 6 corrective application techniques. These can be used in isolation or in combination:

Mechanical Correction

Mechanical Correction

Used to correct the position of a joint or bone.

Fascia Correction

Fascia Correction

Used when trying to create fascia to align in the correct position.

Space Correction

Space Correction

Used to create more space directly above the area of pain, inflammation swelling or oedema. The increased space created reduces pressure by lifting the skin away from the injured site.

Ligament / Tendon Correction

Ligament / Tendon Correction

Used to create increased stimulation over the ligament or tendon. This results in increased stimulation of the receptors which respond to mechanical pressure.

Functional Correction

Functional Correction

Used to assist in sensory stimulation to either reduce or increase motion.

Lymphatic Correction

Lymphatic Correction

Used to create areas of increased and decreased pressure under the Kinesio tape. The effect is to direct the waste products to the nearest lymph duct, this is an effective way to reduce inflammation and swelling after injury/surgery.
